LAIRD STATION CONSTRUCTION UPDATE

JUNE 2020

 What Work is Taking Place?

• Permanent works will continue inside the completed cavern through 2020. These activities include electrical works, waterproofing, formwork, rebar installation, and concrete works.
• Construction within the shaft of the main and secondary entrance will continue. These activities include:

o   Mechanical and engineering works
o   Masonry works
o   Concrete works
o   Rebar and formwork installation 
o   Electrical works

• Construction activities may be more audible as work progresses toward surface level at the main and secondary entrances.
• Occasional concrete chipping activities will be required at the main and secondary entrances and within the cavern.
• Concrete works and material deliveries will continue at the surface level through 2020.
• Depending on the type of activity and the location of your property, certain construction works may be more noticeable than others. Noise and vibration levels are measured on a continuous basis to ensure all operations are completed within safe and allowable limits.

Hours of Work

• Construction activities at the main and secondary entrance will take place between the hours of 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.
• Crane operations will take place between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m.
• Construction within the tunnel will be performed between the hours of 6:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m.
• Beginning June 15, 2020, extended overnight works will be complete. A separate notice will be provided for any future overnight activities.
• Construction activities at Laird Station will take place Monday to Saturday. Work may occasionally take place on Sundays as required.
• The contractor may not always work during the permitted hours but may do so at its discretion. Work may be rescheduled due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.

Traffic Details

• The current traffic configuration will remain in place through to late 2020. 
• Increased truck traffic travelling through the area can be expected.  
• Lane reductions may be required for concrete works and deliveries. Separate notifications will be distributed as required.
• There will be no impacts to existing TTC stops

Travelling Smart during Construction

Travel delays are expected with the Crosstown construction. Please allow extra time for your journey. Traffic will be extra heavy at peak periods during the Crosstown construction. When possible, please travel during the off-peak period between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.
