WHAT WORK IS TAKING PLACE?

To prepare for upcoming mining works at Avenue Station, crews need to fill portions of the completed tunnels with concrete. There are two separate phases to this work. Work will begin as soon as January 22, 2018.

PHASE 1 - DRILLING BORE HOLES

  • First the holes will be drilled into the roadway and down into the tunnels in two different areas:
  • South side of Eglinton, just west of Avenue Road.
  • North side of Eglinton, just west of Avenue Road (within existing construction zone).
  • A work zone will be set up around these two areas and will remain in place for the entire duration that drilling work occurs (approximately 2 weeks).
  • Drilling work may occur between 7AM and 11PM on weekdays, 8AM and 11PM on Saturday, or 9AM to 9PM on Sundays.
  • *Timelines are subject to change due to weather and unforeseen circumstances.
  • The holes will then be covered with steel plates until the second step of concrete pouring occurs.

PHASE 2 - CONCRETE POURING

  • Crews will complete the concrete pours one area at a time.
  • Each area will take approximately 2 weeks to complete the concrete pouring.
  • A work zone will be set up around the concrete trucks as they pour, and it will be taken down nightly.
  • Concrete pour work will occur between 7:00AM and 11:00PM.
  • *Timelines are subject to change due to weather and unforeseen circumstances.
  • During the pouring phase, there will be an increase truck flow to deliver the concrete to the site.
  • Once the concrete pouring is complete the roadway holes will be filled and restored.

TRAFFIC AND PEDESTRIAN IMPACTS

  • Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times however pedestrians may be rerouted around the construction site.
  • Lane reductions will be in place on Eglinton Avenue West in the vicinity of the construction zone.
  • A traffic control person will be present.
  • On-street parking spaces will not be available between Braemar Ave and Avenue Road while work is taking place.
