WHAT WORK IS TAKING PLACE?

Road widening will be completed on the south and north sides of the Eglinton and Bermondsey intersection in mid-July. As early as July 18, 2019, works will transition to the centre of Eglinton Avenue. There will be a six (6) week restriction of northbound and southbound through-traffic from Sloane to Bermondsey and Bermonsey to Sloane for guideway construction.  At this time, the traffic configuration at the Credit Union and Swift Drive intersection will be updated to allow a northbound through lane and both southbound left and right turns. (depicted below). Southbound left and right turns are permitted. 

This stage will be in place until August 30th, 2019.   

TIMING

  • Beginning as early as July 19th, 2019, the traffic configuration will be in place for approximately 6 weeks.
  • Work is expected to occur from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., seven (7) days per week, Monday through Sunday.
  • The contractor may not always work during the permitted hours, but may do so at its discretion. Work may be rescheduled due to weather conditions of unforeseen circumstances.

WHAT TO EXPECT

  • Road widening and reconstruction activities continue on the north and south sides of Eglinton Avenue East, west of Swift Drive. Road widening activities include: excavation, road reconstruction, paving, wet utility relocations and approved tree removals.

TRAFFIC IMPACTS

  • A minimum of two through lanes of traffic on Eglinton Avenue will be will be maintained.
  • A northbound through lane will be implemented for this stage.
  • Southbound left and right turns are permitted.

PEDESTRIAN AND TTC IMPACTS

  • The north sidewalk will be closed west of Swift Drive.
  • A pedestrian route is available between Don Mills Road and Victoria Park Avenue on the south side of Eglinton Avenue East.
  • Eastbound and westbound TTC bus stops will be maintained.
  • Adjustments to pedestrian routes may be required as work progresses. Pedestrian rerouting around work zones is done to protect the safety of pedestrians.
  • Detours will be clearly marked with signage to direct pedestrians to the alternate routes.
