Update - Mount Pleasant Headwall Construction on the North Side of Eglinton

août 20, 2015

What phase of work is starting in the vicinity of Mount Pleasant Road?

What:  Crews will build the Mount Pleasant headwall on the north side of Eglinton Avenue East, east and west of Mount Pleasant Road, for the future Mount Pleasant Station in advance of tunnel construction. Headwalls are underground support walls located at the east and west ends of the station location.

Why:  Station headwalls create the frame for future underground stations, and are required to be in place prior to the arrival of tunnel boring machines at each station location along the Eglinton Crosstown route. Construction of the headwalls requires a jet grout plant to be established nearby to pump a form of concrete, otherwise known as “grout”, to the station headwall location. The jet grout plant will be located on Eglinton Avenue East, between Dunfield Avenue and Redpath Avenue, and will remain in this location for the duration of Mount Pleasant headwall and extraction shaft construction on Eglinton Avenue East near Holly Street.

When: Mount Pleasant headwall construction on the north side of Eglinton, east of Mount Pleasant Road has already commenced. The construction at the northwest side of Eglinton Avenue East and Mount Pleasant Road is expected to commence as soon as late August/early September 2015. Both stages of construction are expected to last approximately two to three months from commencement. Some work may be rescheduled or adjusted due to weather conditions and/or unforeseen circumstances.

Where: Currently, a work zone has been set up on the north side of Eglinton Avenue East, east of Mount Pleasant Road, from Mount Pleasant Road to west of Forman Avenue. This section of work extends from Mount Pleasant Road to west of Forman Avenue.

During the next stage of construction, which will operate concurrently with the current work at the northeast corner of Eglinton Avenue East and Mount Pleasant Road, a work zone will be set up on the north side of Eglinton Avenue East, west of Mount Pleasant Road. This section of work will extend from Mount Pleasant Road to Redpath Avenue on Eglinton Avenue East, and will merge with the traffic staging area of the jet grout plant area located between Redpath Avenue and Dunfield Avenue.

All work zones will be separated from the right-of-way with fencing and traffic cones.  Sidewalks will remain open.  Please use caution when driving in this area.
