Temporary Sewer Work - Walder Avenue

What work is starting?

What: In conjunction with the nearby Eglinton Avenue East sewer rehabilitation work, crews will be excavating for temporary bypass pipes on the west side of Walder Avenue in the southbound lane.  

Why:  A major sewer under Eglinton Avenue East requires upgrading prior to tunnel excavation.

When: Work will begin as early late November 2015 for approximately one week.  Work may be rescheduled or adjusted due to weather conditions and/or unforeseen circumstances.

Where: The work zone will be set-up on the west side of Walder Avenue, just north of Eglinton Avenue East to approximately 10 Walder Avenue (south of Roehampton Avenue).

Traffic Details:

  • Traffic on Walder Avenue north of Eglinton Avenue East to 10 Walder Avenue (south of Roehampton Avenue) will be reduced to one lane in the northbound direction.  
  • On-street parking will be prohibited along the northbound Walder Avenue lane, in this construction zone.

All work zones will be separated from the right-of-way with traffic cones, concrete barriers and/or fencing. Traffic delays are expected during construction. Please watch for traffic signs and take care when travelling near construction areas.

Affected Driveways (during daytime work hours):

  • During the daytime, from approximately 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m, the following addresses may be blocked due to construction: 532 Eglinton Avenue East (Walder Driveway); and 2 to 10 Walder Avenue.
  • After work hours, at approximately 5:00 p.m. all noted driveways will be reopened.

Pedestrians

  • All sidewalks in this area will remain open during construction
  • Access to stores along Eglinton Avenue East will be maintained.
  • Please watch for additional signs directing pedestrians.

Work Hours

This sewer repair work on Walder Avenue is in conjunction with additional sewer repair being done on Eglinton Avenue East between Banff Road and Bayview Avenue for which the contractor may work later.

Most of the work will be carried out between 7:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m., 7 days a week. In certain situations, some late night and/or early morning works may be required to complete the work and keep construction moving. The contractor will not always work during the extended hours, but may do so at its discretion.
