Eglinton Closure and Detour for Road Deck Repair: Saturday, August 27 from 4 a.m. to 10 p.m.

What Work is Taking Place? 

As construction continues on the emergency exit building near Leaside High School, Eglinton Avenue East is required to be temporarily closed between Donlea Drive and Hanna Road, in order to remove and replace existing road decking.


  • Saturday, August 27 from approximately 4 a.m. until approximately 10 p.m.
  • In the event that work is not able to proceed on August 27, the alternative work date is two weeks later on Saturday, September 10 from approximately 4 a.m. to approximately 10 p.m.

Traffic Details

  • Eastbound through traffic will be re-routed north on Donlea Drive and south on Hanna Road back to Eglinton Avenue East.
  • Westbound through traffic will be re-routed north on Hanna Road and west on Donlea Drive back to Eglinton Avenue East.
  • Paid Duty Officers will be located at the intersections of Donlea Drive and Eglinton Avenue East and Hanna Road and Eglinton Avenue East to assist with traffic direction.

Pedestrian Details

  • To ensure the safety of pedestrians during the decking repair, the north sidewalk between Donlea Drive and Hanna Road will be closed, as will the crosswalk at Leaside High School
  • All pedestrians walking along Eglinton Avenue East will be diverted to the south side at Bayview Avenue or Rumsey road
  • For safety reasons, pedestrians will be separated from construction work using construction barrels
  • Please watch for additional signage directing pedestrians and take care when travelling near construction areas.

What to Expect

  • Please be advised that noise and vibration associated with this stage of construction can be expected
  • During this stage of construction, the following residential driveways will be temporarily blocked: 662, 664, 666 and 668 Eglinton Avenue East
  • Properties that are located between Leaside High School and Hanna Road (including 663, 665, 667, 669, 670, 671, and 673 Eglinton Avenue East) will need to exit eastbound, before proceeding in any other direction, as westbound traffic will be blocked for construction.

Transit Information

  • Relocation and re-routing of bus stops is done in consultation between TTC and Metrolinx to ensure construction can continue safely while minimizing impact on the community and customers. 
  • All bus routes travelling along Eglinton Avenue East will be diverted at Laird Drive and reconnect with Eglinton Avenue East at Bayview Avenue.
