Hydro Utility Relocation for Leaside Station

août 29, 2016

What work is taking place?

Crews will relocate and upgrade existing overhead hydro utilities on side streets around the Eglinton Avenue and Bayview Avenue intersection. Once relocated, outages will be required to switch services to the new infrastructure. Outage impacts will be communicated separately only to those directly impacted by the outages.

Hours of Work

  • Work is expected to start as early as August 29, 2016, and will continue for approximately three months.
  • The work is expected to occur between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., up to seven days a week. Permitted hours are until 11:00 p.m.
  • The contractor may not always work during the permitted hours, but may do so at its discretion.
  • If overnight work is required, Metrolinx will notify the public in advance and monitor activities throughout.
  • Work may be rescheduled due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.

What to Expect

  • Crews will relocate and replace existing hydro poles.
  • Crews will work in the curbside lanes on Soudan Avenue, Mann Avenue, Roehampton Avenue, Bruce Park Avenue, Craig Crescent, Divadale Drive, and Bessborough Drive.
  • Businesses and residents will see construction equipment including a line truck to stand the new poles and string the overhead cables.
  • Residents and businesses can expect to hear noise from vacuum trucks and other construction equipment caused by utilities relocation activity.
  • Businesses and residents may experience short outages in the area up to 20 minutes when crews switch services to the new infrastructure at the end of the works.
  • Any longer duration outages will be communicated separately only to those residents or businesses directly impacted.

Traffic and Pedestrian Impacts

  • Short term lane closures of curbside lanes will shift as crews move from zone to zone.
  • Work zones will include sidewalk occupancy and pedestrian routes will be maintained at all times. On-street parking spots may be impacted by the work zone and equipment required for the works.
  • Access to businesses will be maintained.
