What Work is Taking Place?

To complete the Bell Relocation works currently underway on the southwest corner of Bayview Avenue and Eglinton Avenue East, crews will extend the work zone into the intersection on the south side of Eglinton Ave East.

Stage 2 for Bell Utility Relocations


  • Work is expected to begin as early as Wednesday, January 18th, 2017 and will continue for approximately four (4) weeks.   
  • Work is permitted between the hours of 7:00 AM and 11:00 PM, 7 days a week. Crews will be working until 11:00 PM on a regular basis.
  • The work zone will stay in place and will not be plated with metal plates outside of working hours. 
  • Occasional overnight work may be required – Metrolinx and CTS will notify the public in advance and monitor activities throughout.
  • Work is subject to permits and all relevant approvals, and may be rescheduled due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.
  • A third stage will follow this second stage of Bell works.
What to Expect
  • Residents and businesses near construction sites should anticipate noise from excavators, bobcats, and other construction equipment caused by utilities relocation activity and removal of debris.

Pedestrian Details

  • The east-west crosswalk on the south side of Eglinton Avenue will be closed to pedestrians. Pedestrians travelling east-west across Eglinton Avenue will be directed to the north side of Eglinton Avenue to cross Bayview Avenue. 
  • Pedestrian routes around the work zone will maintain a minimum of 1.5 m for pedestrian movements. 
  • Pedestrian bridges will be installed to facilitate pedestrian movement in specific areas.
  • Signage will direct pedestrians to use existing crossings.
  • Access to properties and businesses will be maintained.

Short-Term Traffic Details

  • Lane closures on Bayview Avenue will be required to carry out the work.
  • Right turns, from eastbound Eglinton Ave to southbound Bayview Ave will be restricted. 
  • At least one lane in each direction east-west along Bayview Avenue will be maintained. 
  • One southbound lane will be closed during the first phase.
