Update: Work Continues at Cross Passages 11 & 12

janvier 30, 2017

What Work is Taking Place?

Work continues on the cross passages 11 & 12 at Rumsey Road and Walder Avenue. The cross passage is a small passageway built to connect the eastbound and westbound tunnels for maintenance and emergency purposes. Dewatering equipment is used at street level on Eglinton Avenue above the cross passage location. Dewatering wells are required for cross passage construction to ensure that the water table remains low enough to allow for hand mining work to be completed.  This equipment will be in place for the duration of the building of the cross passage.

Hours of Work

  • Work is expected to continue on the cross passages until late spring 2017.
  • A generator is required to run 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to maintain the dewatering and prevent flooding of the tunnels.
  • Work will continue to occur mainly between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., up to seven (7) days a week.  Permitted hours for tunnelling and related works are 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The contractor will not always work during the extended hours, but may do so at its discretion.

  • Removal of excavated materials from the cross passage sites.
  • The service trains may be used during the overnight period.  The contractor will not always work during the hours, but may do so at its discretion.
