Update Extended Construction Hours at Forest Hill Station - May 2020

mai 7, 2020

What Work Is Taking Place?

Since October 2019, crews have been working extended hours at Forest Hill Station to accelerate construction. The first phase, deep excavation, is currently underway. The second phase, tunnel demolition, is the process of breaking pieces of the concrete tunnel encasement to make way for construction of the station underground. Using an excavator and crane, pieces of the tunnel are broken, loaded into a dump truck and hauled to an off-site facility. Tunnel demolition will continue for approximately two weeks into mid-May 2020. Deep excavation will continue into June 2020. Deep excavation is the process of remove soil from the station box using excavators. Excavated spoils are loaded into dump trucks at the surface level and hauled to an off-site facility. On-site mitigation measures will be in place to minimize disruption from this work as much as possible.

Crews will work Monday through Saturday from 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 a.m. Overnight activities will include, loading and hauling of excavated soil and tunnel pieces into dump trucks, welding, tie-back installation and site maintenance. Please carefully review ‘What to Expect’ for more information.

Periodically, chipping of hardened material and concrete within the excavation is required. Chipping is performed using and excavator and jack hammer attachment. To minimize disruption, chipping is performed between 5:00 a.m. and 12:00 a.m. When extended periods of chipping are required, a separate construction notice will be issued.
