Randy's Takeout

Business profile:
Randy’s Takeout has been serving the Little Jamaica neighbourhood since 1978.
Owner Jennifer is also from Jamaica. “Patties are such a staple in Jamaica, so it only made sense for me to open a patty store.”
The beef patty is a collaboration of various cultures. When the English colonized Jamaica, they introduced pastries to the Caribbean culture. Jamaicans combined the pastry with curry spice from the east Indians and cumin from slaves. The turmeric gives the patty its yellow colour.
Patties, small and convenient, became the go-to food for Cornish miners. Jamaicans brought the patties to North America in the 1960s and 1970s when many immigrated to the United States as hospital orderlies, home health aides and nurses.
Today, patties can be found in almost every convenient store and grocery store.Randy’s Takeout carries beef, chicken and veggie patties, with the beef being the most popular.
Randy’s sometimes carries swordfish and ackee patties.
A favourite stop in the neighbourhood, Randy’s patties are known for their spiciness level and the flakiness of the pastry. Randy’s has been featured in Post City as the “longtime go-to for patties and spicy curry-on-rice plates.”
