What is the Crosstown?

The Eglinton Crosstown is a 19-kilometre light rail transit (LRT) line that will run along Eglinton Avenue through the heart of Toronto, with an underground central section. The line will connect Mount Dennis in the west to Kennedy Road in the east, and the new service will be up to 60% faster than the bus service today.

Backfilling at Oakwood Station Main and Secondary Entrances

What Work is Taking Place?

  • Backfilling is the next stage of the construction activities at the Oakwood Station Main Entrance (1578, 1580, 1582, and 1584 Eglinton Ave West), and Secondary Entrance, (1611, 1615 and 1619 Eglinton Avenue West).
  • This involves refilling and leveling the demolition site as well as a compaction work to construct the crane and drill rig pad.
  • This work involves the laying and compacting of fresh granular material into the ground at station entrance areas.
  •  Given the size and weight of the crane and drill rig, compaction requirements are rigorous, and as a result, nearby properties will experience moderate to significant vibration.
  • Crews are monitoring noise and vibration during this work.
  •  As always, please take care when travelling near work sites.

Timing

  • Backfilling and compaction will continue for the month of July at the secondary entrance and into August at the Main Entrance.
  • Hours of work are 7am to 5pm.
