What Work is Taking Place?

The Eglinton roadway is changing as work continues to prepare for the construction of the surface section of the Eglinton Crosstown LRT that will run down the centre of Eglinton Avenue East in dedicated transit lanes at street level.  Setting up the construction work zones in the roadway will require changes to how car and truck, bus, and pedestrian traffic flows along Eglinton Avenue East and the associated intersections where future stops will be located.

To prepare for the construction of the surface section and future road widening, crews will relocate Bell utilities between Gervais Drive and Victoria Park Avenue across Eglinton Avenue East. Work will begin as soon as March 2018 and the work will be completed in stages beginning at Gervais Drive and moving eastward.

Hours of Work

  • Starting as soon as March 2018 for approximately six (6) months
  • Work is permitted between the hours of 7:00 AM and 11:00 PM, 7 days a week. The contractor may not always work during the permitted hours, but may do so at its discretion.
  • Work may be rescheduled due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.

What to Expect

  • Work will begin within the existing work zones on Eglinton Avenue, near Gervais Drive.
  • Nearby businesses and residents can expect noise from saw cutting, excavation, hydrovac trucks and construction equipment.
  • For safety - fencing, dust cloth, barriers and scaffolding may be erected around work zones.
  • A Pay Duty Officer will be present for work in close proximity to intersections.
  • Pedestrians and road users can expect delays when traveling near work zones.

Traffic and Pedestrian Impacts

  • A minimum of one lane in each direction will be maintained. Efforts will be made to maintain more than one lane where possible.
  • New turning restrictions may be implemented at intersections along Eglinton and other nearby intersections.
  • Sidewalk and/or crosswalk closures may be in effect.
  • Pedestrians may be rerouted around work zones through temporary pedestrian walkways. Detours will be clearly marked with signage directing pedestrians to the alternate routes.
  • Access to businesses and properties will be maintained.

TTC Impacts

  • TTC bus stops in the affected area may be relocated for the safety of transit riders. Please watch for posted signs indicating the adjusted locations.
  • Relocation and re-routing of bus stops is done in consultation between TTC and Metrolinx to ensure construction can continue safely while minimizing impact on the community and customers.
