What Work is Taking Place?

Since spring 2017, crews have been performing support of excavation (shoring) in the vicinity of Mount Pleasant Road and Eglinton Avenue East.  Shoring of the station box, located in the roadway, is currently underway on the north side of Eglinton Avenue East.  In preparation of shoring on the south side of the station box, crews will install new storm sewer infrastructure.

To minimize the impact to pedestrians and road users, a construction method called micro-tunneling will be used.  Construction of two shafts is required; one launch shaft at Taunton Road and Eglinton Avenue East, and one receiving shaft on Eglinton Avenue East, east of Brownlow Avenue.  The launch shaft will be constructed first, followed by the receiving shaft several weeks later.

The new traffic stage (pictured below) will be implemented as early as Thursday October 12, 2017, to commence utilities investigation followed by construction of the launch shaft.  During this stage, Taunton Road will be closed at Eglinton Avenue East for approximately twelve (12) weeks while this work takes place.  A second traffic stage will be implemented in late fall to accommodate construction of the receiving shaft east of Brownlow Avenue.
