Support of Excavation at Mount Pleasant Station
What Work is Taking Place?
As early as mid-July 2018, crews will mobilize a second drill to the south side of Eglinton Avenue East to begin piling in the southwest work zone adjacent Eglinton Junior Public School. Piling is a common step in the process of constructing the foundation of a building, in which crews will drill several meters below-grade, a steel beam is placed in the shaft and concrete is poured. Piles form the support of the station structure. Following pile installation, lagging, braces and tie-backs will be installed entrance to support excavation.
In advance of piling on the southwest, a large scaffolding system will be installed over the sidewalk to provide overhead protection and delineation for the work zone. Scaffold installation will take several days to complete.
Piling will be completed during permitted hours. Noise from drilling activity can be expected.
