What work is starting?

In February 2016, crews began conducting preparatory activities and utilities works including surveying, locating utilities, and drilling boreholes to obtain additional information of sub-surface utilities and ground conditions in the Laird Avenue and Eglinton Avenue East vicinity to make way for the future Laird Station.

Upcoming Works – Demolition

  • A commercial property along the Eglinton Avenue East corridor will be demolished to make way for the construction of Laird Station.
  • The property is located at 250-256 Laird Drive, on the south west corner of Eglinton Avenue East and Laird Drive.
  • A portion of the parking lot at 815-845 Eglinton Avenue East, on the south east corner of Eglinton Avenue East and Laird Drive will be occupied.
  • For safety purposes, temporary fencing will be installed around each demolition site.


  • Demolition works will last for three (3) weeks and are expected to begin the week of February 29, 2016, subject to approvals.
  • Demolition works will take place between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

What to expect

  • Residents and businesses near demolition sites should anticipate noise from excavators, bobcats, and other construction equipment and dust caused by demolition activity and removal of debris.
  • Some street furniture in the vicinity will also be removed including a bus stop, benches, and a mailbox.

Traffic Impacts

  • Road closures are not anticipated for demolition works.
  • Sidewalk and property access will be maintained.

The Eglinton Crosstown is a 19-kilometre light rail transit (LRT) line that will run along Eglinton Avenue through the heart of Toronto, with an underground central section. The line will connect Mount Dennis in the west to Kennedy Road in the east, and the new service will be up to 60% faster than the bus service today.
