What work is starting?

What: Enbridge Gas Distribution will be relocating natural gas pipelines at the site of the future Chaplin Station.

Map - Chaplin gas relocation July 2015

Why: To accommodate the construction of the new Eglinton Crosstown Chaplin station, Enbridge is required to relocate natural gas pipelines. These pipelines are integral to Enbridge’s gas system and must be re-routed to ensure the safe and reliable delivery of natural gas to customers in the Greater Toronto Area.

When: Crews will begin to occupy the area near Chaplin Crescent and Eglinton Avenue, starting as early as August 4, 2015. It is expected that this work will be completed over a one month period. Work could be rescheduled due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.

Where: The project will primarily take place on side streets and in laneways.  Areas where Enbridge will be working are highlighted on the map in blue. Enbridge representatives will be in touch with affected businesses or home owners to notify them of any potential natural gas service interruptions or natural gas meter relocations.

Transit Information

For the safety of transit riders, TTC bus stops in the affected area will be relocated. Watch for additional signs directing pedestrians.

Traffic and Pedestrian Details

Due to the current volume of traffic in this area, traffic delays are expected during construction. Please take care when travelling near construction areas.

During construction, lane reductions or short-term road closures will be required. Crews will maintain driveway access for residents where possible.

Pedestrian walkways may have limited access during construction hours. Please watch for additional signs directing pedestrians as detours will be required.

Work Hours

Most of the work will be carried out between 7:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m., seven days a week. In certain situations, some late night and/or early morning work may be required to keep construction moving. Enbridge will not always work during the extended hours, but may do so at their discretion.
