What Work is Taking Place?
As part of the ongoing construction works for the future Brentcliffe Portal and Surface Stops, above ground and in-ground monitoring points will be installed on the City Right-of-Way, which may include the roadway, sidewalks and/or driveways on Thursfield Crescent.
Once installed, the instruments will remain at these locations for the length of the project. Monitoring allows crews to evaluate the impact of construction works.
Timing
- The installations are expected to start as soon as early-October 2017, and last up to two (2) weeks.
- Readings will occur periodically for the duration of the project.
- Work is permitted between the hours of 7:00 AM and 11:00 PM, 7 days a week. The contractor may not always work during the permitted hours, but may do so at its discretion.
- Work may be rescheduled due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.
What to Expect
- Construction crews and equipment will be present along the roadway and sidewalk on Thursfield Crescent.
- Each monitoring point installation process takes anywhere from one hour to up to a few days, depending on the type of installation.
- For installations, nearby residents and businesses can expect to hear noise-related to drilling, saw-cutting, use of a vacuum truck, and the use of heavy equipment.
- For readings, crews move from instrument to instrument and may be present at each site from 5 minutes to an hour.
Traffic and Pedestrian Impacts
- Short duration partial lane closures are required to safely perform the installation and reading work.
- Sidewalk access may be interrupted/closed at times. Alternative pedestrian routes will be provided.
- If required, staff will be present to direct pedestrians.
