What Work is Taking Place?

As part of ongoing utility relocation work for the future Science Centre Station, crews will be conducting hydro infrastructure work in the vicinity of Eglinton Avenue East and Ferrand Drive beginning as soon as early October 2017. Construction of hydro duct banks and installation of electrical equipment will be required to provide power to the station box.

Hours of Work

  • Work is expected to begin as soon as early October and is expected to last for approximately seven (7) weeks.
  • Work is permitted to occur in the roadway between 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM.
  • Work outside of the roadway may occur between 7:00 AM and 11:00 PM.
  • The contractor may not always work during the permitted hours, but may do so at its discretion.
  • Work may be rescheduled due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.

What to Expect

  • Work zones will be erected in the roadway on the south side of Eglinton Avenue East between Don Mills Road and Ferrand Drive.
  • Work will be completed in stages. Construction of the new duct bank is expected to last approximately four (4) weeks, followed by electrical works, which are expected to last an additional three (3) weeks.
  • Nearby businesses and residents can expect noise from excavators, bobcats, trucks and other construction equipment caused by utilities relocation activity.
  • For safety purposes, fencing will be erected around the work zones.

Traffic and Pedestrian Details

  • Closure of the eastbound curb lane on Eglinton Avenue East between Don Mills Road and Ferrand Drive is required to safely conduct the work.
  • Access to Ferrand from Eglinton will be maintained, but reduced to half of the roadway.
  • In the final stage of work the west bound lane on Ferrand between the Eglinton access ramp to Windom Road will be closed daily from 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM. Local access via Ferrand westbound to the Eglinton access ramp will remain open during this closure.
  • As always, please take care when travelling near work sites.
  • Pedestrians may be temporarily rerouted around work zones.
  • Pedestrian detours will be clearly marked with signage directing pedestrians to the alternate routes.
