What Work is Taking Place?

To prepare for the construction of the surface section and future road widening, beginning as early as late-March 2018, crews will relocate and upgrade existing overhead hydro utilities between Brentcliffe Rd and Leslie Street. Existing overhead and underground infrastructure will be relocated for construction and staging purposes.

Outages will be required to switch services to the new infrastructure. Outage requirements and impacts will be communicated separately only to those directly impacted.

Timing

  • Beginning as early as late March 2017 for approximately six (6) months.
  • This work may take place between the hours of 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.
  • The contractor may not always work during the permitted hours, but may do so at its discretion. Work may be rescheduled due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.
  • Updates on works taking place during overnight periods will be communicated separately.

What to Expect

  • Beginning at Brentcliffe Rd moving eastward, crews will be installing new poles, wires, transformers, and switches on the south side of Eglinton Avenue East, followed by trenching of new duct banks across Eglinton Avenue East to connect to existing infrastructure.
  • Nearby businesses and residents can expect noise from excavators, bobcats, trucks and other construction equipment caused by utilities relocation activity.

Traffic and Pedestrian Impacts

  • Temporary, short duration single lane occupancy (approximately 30 minute intervals) will be required along Eglinton Avenue East.
  • A minimum of one lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained.
  • Pedestrian and property access will be maintained.
  • As always, please take care when travelling near work sites.

TTC Impacts

  • TTC bus stops in the affected area may be relocated for the safety of transit riders. Please watch for posted signs indicating the adjusted locations.
  • Relocation and re-routing of bus stops is done in consultation with TTC to ensure construction can continue safely while minimizing impact on the community and customers.
