Lane Shift on Yonge Street for Utility Investigation Work - December 2019

As early as December 9, 2019, lanes on Yonge Street between Roehampton Avenue and Eglinton Avenue will be shifted to the west side of the street to make way for a temporary work zone on the east side of the street in order to perform an utility investigation for the ongoing tunnel ventilation shaft construction. The temporary work zone will remain in place until the end of December 2019.  No changes for pedestrian routes are required.  All four crosswalks at Yonge Street and Eglinton Avenue will remain open.

 

Hours of Work

The lane shift will be implemented as early as the week of December 9

• The temporary configuration will remain in place through December 2019

Construction will take place between 7:00 a.m. – 11:00 p.m., Monday – Sunday 

The contractor may not always work during the permitted hours, but may do so at its discretion.

Work may be rescheduled due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.

 

Traffic and Pedestrian Changes

Traffic lanes on Yonge St between Roehampton Ave and Eglinton Ave will be shifted to the west side of the street

A temporary work zone will be erected on the east side of the street

All four (4) crosswalks at the Yonge Street and Eglinton Avenue East intersection will be open.

One lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained on Yonge St between Roehampton Ave and Eglinton Ave for the duration of the work.

Pedestrian routes will not be affected.

Signage will be in place to direct pedestrians.

Please watch for traffic and construction signage.

As always, please take care when travelling near work sites.

 

What to Expect

Noise from construction activity and lighting can be expected

For safety, use of concrete barriers, fencing, dust cloth and lighting can be expected.

Storefront and property access will be maintained.

Third party crossing guard services will continue.

Expect delays when traveling near work zones.

 

Transit Information

Access to the TTC Eglinton Subway Station will be maintained. Relocation and re-routing of bus stops is done in consultation with TTC to ensure construction can continue safely while minimizing impact on the community and customers. Please watch for posted notices indicating new information.

Travelling Smart during Construction

Travel delays are expected with the Crosstown construction. Please allow extra time for your journey. Traffic will be extra heavy at peak periods during the Crosstown construction. When possible, please travel during the off-peak period between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.
