Long-term Closure of Highbourne Road at Eglinton Avenue West

What we are building

What: Construction of the headwalls for the future Avenue station requires a grout plant to be established nearby to pump a form of concrete, otherwise known as “grout”, to the station headwall location. In order to minimize road occupancy on Eglinton Avenue West this grout plant will be located within a section on Highbourne Road, south of Eglinton. Some road adjustments will take place to accommodate the grout plant.

Why: Crews will be building headwalls for Avenue Station. Headwalls are underground support walls located at the east and west ends of the future station location. Station headwalls are required to be in place prior to the arrival of tunnel boring machines at each of the station locations along the Eglinton Crosstown route.  

Where: The jet grout plant will be located on the roadway at Highbourne Road and Eglinton Avenue West. A fence will enclose the site to separate the site from the public roadway. 

When: The setup of the grout plant is expected to start in January 2015, followed by the construction of the headwalls. The grout plant is expected to remain in place for the duration of headwall construction from January 2015 until summer 2015. Some work may be rescheduled or adjusted due to weather conditions and unforeseen circumstances

Traffic Details

There will be no access to Eglinton Avenue West from Highbourne Road. 

Highbourne Road between College View Avenue and Eglinton Avenue will be local-access only. Residents & local businesses are permitted to travel in both directions between College View Avenue and Eglinton Avenue on Highbourne Road during this closure. 

Initial preparations will require rolling lane restrictions on Eglinton Avenue West for installation of grout lines. Please take care when travelling near construction areas. 

Pedestrian Information

Pedestrian walkways will remain open; however a detour around the jet grout plant will be in place. Pedestrians will be separated from construction with a chain link fence.

Work Hours

Most of the work will be carried out between 7 a.m. and 11 p.m., 7 days a week. In certain situations, some late night and/or early morning works may be required to complete the work and keep construction moving.  The contractor will not always work during the extended hours, but may do so at its discretion.

Noise and Vibration

Noise and vibration associated with construction can be expected with this work.
