Mid-Block Guideway Work at the East of Birchmount Road

What Work is Taking Place?

On Sunday November 3, 2019, Rosemount Drive will be closed north of Eglinton Avenue East for approximately six (6) weeks to facilitate guideway construction for the future Eglinton Crosstown LRT surface stops.  Guideway construction includes, cutting and removal of asphalt, excavation, installation of subgrade materials, duct banks installation and track drainage, track slab and stops.

Through access on Rosemount Dr at Eglinton Ave E will be prohibited for the duration of this work.  Northbound traffic on Rosemount Dr will be required to continue east or west on Eglinton Ave E, while southbound traffic on Rosemount Dr will be required to divert north of Eglinton Ave E.  Local access will be maintained. Eglinton Ave E will be reduced to one westbound lane and two eastbound lanes.

Midblock guideway work at the east of Birchmount Road will begin November 11, 2019.

Hours of Work

• Rosemount Dr will be closed as early as November 3, 2019 for approximately six (6) weeks.

• Construction will take place between 7:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m.

• The contractor may not always work during the permitted hours but may do so at its discretion.

• Work may be rescheduled due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.

What to Expect

• Midblock guideway work at the east of Birchmount Road will begin November 11, 2019.

 • Rosemount Dr will be closed at Eglinton Ave E; no through traffic will be permitted.

• Eglinton Ave E will remain open during this work.

• Nearby businesses and residents can expect noise from excavation, bobcats, trucks and other construction equipment as well as site lighting.

Traffic and Pedestrian Impacts

• Northbound traffic on Rosemount Dr will be required to turn right or left at Eglinton Ave E.

• Southbound traffic on Rosemount Dr will be required to divert north of Eglinton Ave.

• There will be no north-south through traffic on Rosemount Drive.

• Westbound right turns onto Rosemount Dr will be prohibited.

• Both westbound and eastbound left turns onto Rosemount Dr will be prohibited.

• A portion of sidewalk at the northwest side corner of Rosemount Dr and Eglinton Ave will be closed.

 • A minimum of one lane of eastbound and westbound through traffic will be maintained during this work. 

• Intermittent closures of the east and west crosswalks will be effect during this work; one north-south crosswalk will remain open at all times.

• Emergency services access will be maintained. 

TTC Impacts

• TTC bus stops in the affected area may be relocated for the safety of transit riders.

• Relocation and re-routing of bus stops and buses, is done in consultation with TTC to ensure construction can continue safely while minimizing impact on the community and customers.
