What Work is Taking Place?

Crews will relocate an existing stormwater line on the north side of Eglinton Avenue East from just west of Don Mills Road to approximately Gervais Drive and make connections to existing infrastructure on the south side of Eglinton to support the upgrade of existing water infrastructure at the future Science Centre Station. In an effort to minimize disruption to local traffic and commuters, work will be performed overnight in stages.

Hours of Work

  • Preliminary work is expected to begin as soon as November 22, 2017, and will be completed over two nights.
  • The remainder of the work will begin as soon as Sunday, November 26, 2017 and will be completed in phases over approximately one week.
  • Work will occur overnight from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.
  • Work may be rescheduled due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.

What to Expect

  • Nearby businesses and residents can expect noise from excavators, bobcats, trucks and other construction equipment caused by utilities relocation activity.

Traffic Impacts

  • During overnight work, lane reductions will be required with one thru lane of traffic for each direction on Eglinton Avenue maintained around the work zone. Paid-Duty Police Officers will be present when this work is in close proximity to the intersection.
  • From Sunday, November 26 for approximately one week, access to Ferrand Drive from eastbound Eglinton Avenue will be closed.

Pedestrian Details

  • Existing crosswalk and sidewalk closures will remain in effect. Please watch for signs directing pedestrians to alternate routes.

TTC Impacts

  • The eastbound Eglinton TTC bus stop on Eglinton Avenue East, east of Don Mills, will be moved approximately 100 metres west. All other TTC bus stops will remain in their current locations.
  • Relocation and re-routing of bus stops is done in consultation between TTC and Metrolinx to ensure construction can continue safely while minimizing impact on the community and customers.
