November 24, 2016

Since June 2016, shoring and excavation work has been underway within the main and secondary entrance sites for the future Laird Station. In January 2017, the long-term road occupancy and sidewalk closure is expected to begin and will remain for the duration of the work – upwards of 40 months.

Pedestrian Impacts

Early 2017 

  • The sidewalk on the west side of Laird drive between Eglinton Avenue East and Parklea Drive will be closed.
  • The west-to-east crosswalk on the south side of Eglinton Avenue East and Laird Drive will be closed.
  • Signage will direct pedestrians to use existing crossing at Laird and Wicksteed Ave/McRae Dr. or take Parklea Dr. to Sutherland Dr. to access Eglinton Ave E. 

Late Spring 2017

  • The sidewalk on the south side of Eglinton Avenue East between Laird Drive and Don Avon Drive will be closed. 
  • A temporary signalized pedestrian crossing will be installed on Eglinton Avenue East, approximately 50 meters west of Don Avon Drive.
  • Access to shops and businesses along the south side of Eglinton Avenue East will be maintained.

Traffic Details

Early 2017

  • Two southbound lanes on Laird Drive south of Eglinton Avenue East will be maintained, however lanes will be narrowed slightly to accommodate concrete barriers separating the construction area. 
  • Until early 2017, trucks waiting to enter the main and secondary entrance sites will continue to be staged on Laird Drive periodically throughout the day.

Late Spring 2017

  • The eastbound curbside lane of Eglinton Avenue East between Laird Drive and Don Avon Drive will be closed. 
  • A temporary signalized pedestrian crossing will be installed on Eglinton Avenue East, approximately 50 meters west of Don Avon Drive to help facilitate pedestrians crossing Eglinton Avenue between Laird Drive and Don Avon Drive.
  • All current turning restrictions in the construction zone will be maintained.
  • During peak hours, travel times may be affected. Be sure to allow extra time.

TTC Impacts

Late Spring 2017

  • Bus stops for routes #56A & #54B Leaside, #34 Eglinton, #51 Leslie, #54 Lawrence East and #100 Flemingdon Park will be relocated. Please look for signage regarding temporary stop locations..

What to Expect and Hours of Work

  • Residents near the work site can expect to hear trucks, excavators, backhoes, a pile drill and other construction equipment.
  •  For this stage of construction, crews will be working until 11:00 p.m. on a regular basis. The work is permitted between 7:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m., 7 days a week.
  • Occasional overnight work may be required. Metrolinx and Crosslinx Transit Solutions (CTS) will notify the public in advance and monitor activities throughout.
