What Work is Taking Place?

Beginning in early March, and pending permit approval, crews will start support of excavation work, also known as shoring, in the city right of way at the future Leaside Station.  The station is located at the intersection of Bayview Avenue and Eglinton Avenue East.  Steel piles as well as braces and tie-backs will be installed around the perimeter of the station box and entrances to support excavation.  Once steel piles are installed in each area, shallow excavation occurs and wooden decking is installed over the excavated area followed by reinstatement of the roadway.

Shoring work started at the main entrance location in January 2017. Right of way works will be conducted in four stages, beginning in the roadway on the south and southeast side of Eglinton Avenue East. The first stage will take approximately ten (10) weeks to complete. The entire shoring process will take approximately fifteen (15) months to complete.

Timing
  • Work is expected to begin as early as March 3rd, 2017 and will continue for approximately fifteen (15) months.
  • Work is permitted between the hours of 7:00 AM and 11:00 PM, 7 days a week. Crews will be working until 11:00 PM on a regular basis.
  • Occasional overnight work may be required – Metrolinx and CTS will notify the public in advance and monitor activities throughout.
  • Work is subject to permits and all relevant approvals, and may be rescheduled due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.
What to Expect
  • Nearby residents and businesses can expect noise in the area caused by a pile drill, crane, loaders, trucks and other construction equipment, as well as dust from drilling activity and debris removal.
  • Heavy truck traffic, entering and exiting the work zone, and traveling through nearby streets can be expected.
  • In addition to construction activity, residents can expect to see equipment and material storage within designated work zones.
  • For safety purposes, fencing will be erected around the work zone.
