Sloane Stop Construction on Eglinton Avenue East

WHAT WORK IS TAKING PLACE?

As road widening and guideway installation continue along Eglinton Avenue East, crews will commence construction of the Sloane stop east of Bermondsey Road. Eastbound and westbound lanes will be realigned early October, 2019 (depicted below) to accommodate construction activities. Stop construction activities include excavation, concrete works, saw cutting, duct bank installation, drilling and installation of permanent infrastructure.

All works are in support of the construction of the Crosstown LRT tracks, guideway (dedicated transit lane) and stops in the centre of Eglinton Avenue East.

TIMING

  • Work will begin early October, 2019 and continue for three (3) months.
  •  Work is expected to occur from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., seven (7) days per week, Monday through Sunday.
  • The contractor may not always work during the permitted hours, but may do so at its discretion.
  • Work may be rescheduled or extended due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.

WHAT TO EXPECT

  • Stop construction activities include excavation, concrete works, saw cutting, duct bank installation, drilling and installation of permanent infrastructure.
  • Due to the nature of this work, at times there will be noise and vibration around the work area.

PEDESTRIAN IMPACTS

  • The pedestrian walkway will remain on the south side of Eglinton Avenue East and is available between Bermondsey Road and Victoria Park Avenue.
  • The north-south crosswalk on the west side of the intersection will be closed.
  • Pedestrian rerouting around work zones is done to protect the safety of pedestrians. Detours will be clearly marked with signage to direct pedestrians to the alternate routes.

TTC IMPACTS

  • Eastbound and westbound TTC stops will remain in place at the intersection.
  •  Relocation and re-routing of bus stops is done in consultation with the TTC to ensure construction can continue safely while minimizing impact on the community and customers.
