What Work is Taking Place?

Support of excavation work, also known as shoring, has commenced to make way for the future Eglinton interchange station. This work will include pile installation, jet grouting and road deck installation.  

The next phase (depicted below) will occur on the south side of Eglinton Avenue East from Cowbell Lane to Dunfield Avenue and will take approximately 3-4 months to complete. 


Hours of Work

  • Work is expected to begin as soon as early October 2018. Portions of this phase of shoring will be approximately 3-4 months.
  • Work is permitted between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m., 7 days a week.
  • The contractor may not always work during the permitted hours, but may do so at its discretion.
  • Occasional overnight work may be required. Metrolinx will notify the public in advance and monitor activities throughout.
  • Work may be rescheduled due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.


What to Expect

  • A new work zone will be set up on the south side of Eglinton Avenue East between Cowbell Lane and Dunfield Avenue. Traffic will be routed around the work zone.
  • Holly Street will close at Eglinton Avenue for the duration of this work.
  • Nearby residents and businesses can expect noise in the area caused by a pile drill, crane, loaders, trucks and other construction equipment, as well as dust from drilling activity and debris removal.
  • Heavy truck traffic entering and exiting the work zone, and traveling through nearby streets can be expected.
  • In addition to construction activity, residents can expect to see equipment and material storage within designated work zones.
  • For safety purposes, fencing will be erected around the work zone.
  • All access to businesses is maintained throughout the stages.


Traffic and Pedestrian Impacts

  • Lane closures on Yonge Street and Eglinton Avenue will be required to carry out the work. At least one lane in all directions will be maintained. 
  • Cowbell Lane will remain closed at Eglinton Avenue East.
  • Holly Street will close at Eglinton Avenue for the duration of this work.
  • The north-south crosswalk at the west of Dunfield Avenue will remain open.
  • The sidewalk from Yonge Street to Dunfield on the north and south side of Eglinton Avenue East will remain open.


Transit Information

Access to the TTC Eglinton Subway Station will be maintained. Relocation and re-routing of bus stops is done in consultation with TTC to ensure construction can continue safely while minimizing impact on the community and customers. Please watch for posted notices indicating new information. 


Travelling Smart during Construction

Travel delays are expected with the Crosstown construction. Please allow extra time for your journey. Traffic will be extra heavy at peak periods during the Crosstown construction. When possible, please travel during the off-peak period between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.
