What Work is Taking Place?
Crews will relocate existing telecommunications utilities from overhead to underground around the Eglinton Avenue and Bayview Avenue intersection. For the safety of the public and workers, temporary pedestrian and traffic changes will be in effect to accommodate this work.
Hours of Work
- Works are expected to start as early as October 24, 2016, and will continue for approximately two months.
- The work is expected to occur between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., up to seven (7) days a week. Permitted hours are until 11:00 p.m.
- The contractor may not always work during the permitted hours, but may do so at its discretion.
- If overnight work is required, Metrolinx will notify the public in advance and monitor activities throughout.
- Work may be rescheduled due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.
What to Expect
- Crews will remove overhead telecommunications lines and relocate to underground in the work zones noted.
- Work will be completed in nine stages. The duration of each stage is approximately one week.
- Businesses and residents will hear noise from construction equipment including a line truck, vacuum trucks, bobcats and other construction equipment required for utilities relocation activities.
- For safety purposes, fencing will be erected around the work zones while work is underway.
- Open excavations will be covered by metal plates outside of working hours.
Traffic and Pedestrian Impacts
- Short term lane closures of curbside lanes that will shift as crews move from each work zone to the next.
- Work zones will include sidewalk occupancy, however, 1.5 meters for pedestrian access will be maintained at all times.
