What Work is Taking Place?

The East Don River and Wynford Drive Bridges are being rehabilitated as part of the construction of the Eglinton Crosstown LRT. Works include deck replacement, reinforcement, and repairs to the supports and beams to both bridges.

As part of the ongoing works crews will be conducting deck pouring at the East Don River Bridge. This work is scheduled to start as early as Saturday, September 22nd  — to facilitate this work there will be a temporary traffic staging.

Traffic staging will commence as early as Saturday, September 22nd at 4 a.m. and end Monday, September 24th, 2018 at approximately 6 a.m.

Hours of Work

  • Beginning as early as Saturday, September 22, 2018 for approximately 12 hours.
  • Time: Work will be performed between the hours of 4 a.m. and 4 p.m.
  • Note: Unexpected circumstances (weather, equipment failure, etc.) may also change the above interruption plans or prolong the interruption. If this occurs, we will endeavour to provide reasonable notice.

What to Expect

  • Concrete pour of East Don River Bridge deck as part of the rehabilitation process.
  • Following completion of the deck pour, the concrete will need to cure before traffic lanes can be restored.
  • Workers may not always be present during the curing stages.
  • Lane closures are required to safely conduct the work.
  • A minimum of one through lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained.
  • Access to affected businesses and residential properties will be maintained.
  • No obstruction to TTC services.
  • Pedestrians and road users can expect delays when travelling through the work zone.
  • As always, please take care when travelling near work sites.

Traffic and Pedestrian Impacts

  • One lane of eastbound and westbound through traffic will be maintained during this work.
  • The sidewalk on the north side of Eglinton Avenue East adjacent to the work zone will remain closed for the duration of the work to protect the safety of pedestrians.
  • Pedestrian detours will be clearly marked with signage to direct pedestrians to the alternate routes and flag persons may be present to assist.
  • Pedestrian rerouting around work zones is done to protect the safety of pedestrians.

TTC Impacts

  • Relocation and re-routing of bus stops is done in consultation with TTC to ensure construction can continue safely while minimizing impact on the community and customers.
