Traffic Configuration Change at Bayview Avenue and Eglinton Avenue East - January 2020

What Work is Taking Place?

To support the continued construction of the future Leaside Station, a new traffic configuration (depicted below) will be implemented mid-January 2020 at the Eglinton Avenue East and Bayview Avenue intersection. The new traffic stage will accommodate deep excavation and hauling, concrete works, material deliveries and permanent works.

Hours of Work

  • The new traffic configuration will be in place mid-January 2020 through to summer 2020
  • Construction may occur between the hours of 5:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m., seven (7) days a week.
  • This work may be delayed or rescheduled due to inclement weather or unforeseen circumstance.

What to Expect

  • Noise, lighting and traffic delays can be expected for the duration of this stage.
  • Equipment and material storage within the work zone.
  • Construction vehicles entering and exiting the work zone.
  • Property access will be maintained.
  • Fencing and concrete barriers will be installed around the work zone.
  • Pedestrians and motorists can expect delays while moving through the intersection.
  • Overnight noise may occur while the new traffic stage is being implemented.

Traffic Impacts

  • One lane in each direction will be maintained.
  • The westbound left turn movement will be prohibited.
  • The southbound left and right turn movements will be prohibited.
  • The northbound left turn will be prohibited.
  • Lane reductions are required to accommodate simultaneous construction activities and subsequent vehicles, equipment and crews.

Pedestrian Impacts

  • The west north-south crosswalk will remain closed.
  • Pedestrian rerouting around work zones is done to protect the safety of pedestrians. Detours will be clearly marked with signage to direct pedestrians to the alternate routes.

Transit Information

  • There are no changes to the existing TTC stops.

Travelling Smart during Construction

Travel delays are expected with the Crosstown construction. Please allow extra time for your journey. Traffic will be extra heavy at peak periods during the Crosstown construction. When possible, please travel during the off-peak period between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.
