What Work is Taking Place? 

As part of the continued support of excavation works for the future Science Centre station, traffic staging at the intersection of Don Mills Road and Eglinton Avenue East will be changing as early as August 23, 2017. Eastbound traffic on the west side of the intersection will be shifted to the south side of Eglinton Avenue, allowing work to proceed in the centre of the roadway.

Hours of Work

  • Weather permitting, crews will adjust the traffic set-up on the following schedule:
  1. Wednesday, August 23 at 7:00 PM, working overnight until Thursday, August 24 at 5:00 AM
  2. Thursday, August 24 at 7:00 PM, working overnight until Friday, August 25 at 5:00 AM
  • A paid-duty Police Officer will be present during traffic set-up work.
  • The contractor may not always work during the permitted hours, but may do so at its discretion.
  • Work may be rescheduled due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.
  • Once the traffic set-up is in place, it is expected to remain for up to 12 weeks. Most of the work is expected to be performed between 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM, however the contractor is permitted to work between the hours of 7:00 AM and 11:00 PM, 7 days a week. The contractor may not always work during the permitted hours, but may do so at its discretion.
  • Limited overnight works may also be expected.

What to Expect

  • Traffic will be shifted to the south side of Eglinton Avenue East between the Celestica Ramp to west of the Don Mills Road.  
  • Minor adjustments to the traffic control barriers around the intersection will also be made, but all existing lanes will remain the same. 
  • Nearby businesses and residents can expect noise from trucks and other construction equipment required to perform the work. 

Traffic and Pedestrian Details 

  • During the traffic set-up, additional short duration lane closures will be required to safely conduct the work. 
  • Once, the traffic set-up is in place, a minimum of two lanes of traffic in each direction will be maintained. Additional lane reductions during off peak hours may be required.
  • All existing sidewalk closures and detours remain in effect for this stage. Pedestrian detours are clearly marked with signage directing pedestrians to the alternate routes.
  • As always, please take care when travelling near work sites.

Transit Details 

  • Relocation and re-routing of bus stops is done in consultation between TTC and Metrolinx to ensure construction can continue safely while minimizing impact on the community and customers. Please watch for posted notices indicating new information.
