What Work is Taking Place?

As part of the continued support of excavation works and utility relocation works for the future Science Centre station, traffic staging at the intersection of Don Mills Road and Eglinton Avenue East will be changing as early as January 27, 2018. Working overnight as crews do preparatory work for the reconfiguration is expected to begin as early as January 25, 2018. Once the traffic set-up is in place, this current configuration is expected to remain in place for approximately three (3) months.

Hours of Work

  • Weather permitting, work to change the existing set-up will occur overnight and on the following schedule:
  • Thursday, January 25 at 7:00 PM, working overnight until Friday, January 26 at 6:00 AM
  • Friday, January 26 at 7:00 PM, working overnight and continuing in the daytime until Saturday, January 27 at 5:00 PM
  • A paid-duty Police Officer will be present during traffic set-up work.
  • Work may be rescheduled due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.
  • Regular construction operations will occur during daytime hours before and after the set up.
  • Work is permitted between the hours of 7:00 AM and 11:00 PM, 7 days a week. The contractor may not always work during the permitted hours, but may do so at its discretion.

What to Expect

  • Once the set-up is complete, a new work zone will be erected on the west side of Don Mills Road, across Eglinton Avenue East and both north and south of the intersection. Adjustments will be made to the traffic control barriers around the intersection.
  • Nearby businesses and residents can expect noise from trucks and other construction equipment required to perform the work.

Traffic Impacts

  • During the work zone set-up additional short duration lane closures may be required to safely conduct the work.
  • Once, the set-up is complete traffic a minimum of two through lanes of traffic in each direction will be maintained, with all turns at the intersection maintained.
  • Additional lane reductions during off peak hours may be required.

Pedestrian Impacts

  • The north-south crosswalk on the west side of Don Mills Road Avenue will be closed.
  • Pedestrian detours will be clearly marked with signage directing pedestrians to the alternate routes.

Transit Information

  • The westbound bus stop on Eglinton Avenue East will be moved east, closer to Don Mills Road. All other bus stops will remain in their current locations.
  • Relocation and re-routing of bus stops is done in consultation between TTC and Metrolinx to ensure construction can continue safely while minimizing impact on the community and customers.
