What Work is Happening?

To prepare for upcoming mining works at Oakwood Station, crews need to fill portions of the completed tunnels with concrete.

Hours of Work

  •  Work will begin as early as Friday December 1, 2017.
  • The entire process will last approximately 1.5 months, anticipated to be complete by late January 2018.
  • Due to the location of the work, crews will be working both during daytime hours (7am -11pm) and overnight (11pm – 7am).

·

*Timelines are subject to change due to weather and unforeseen circumstances.

Drilling the Bore Holes
APPROXIMATE TIMELINE: TWO WEEKS

  • Holes will be drilled into the roadway and down into the tunnels on the south side of Eglinton, at the intersection of Oakwood Avenue.
  • The equipment must remain at the work site overnight during the drilling period, so the curb lane will remain closed overnight.
  • The holes will then be covered with steel plates that will be flush with the road surface.

Pouring the Concrete
APPROXIMATE TIMELINE: ONE MONTH

  •  A work zone will be set up around the concrete trucks as they pour.
  • There will be an increase truck flow to deliver the concrete to the site.
  • Once the concrete pouring is complete the roadway holes will be filled and restored.

Traffic and Pedestrian Impacts

  • Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times.
  •  At some stages of the overnight work, eastbound right turns onto Oakwood Avenue from Eglinton Avenue will be restricted.
  • At some stages of the overnight work, northbound left turns onto Eglinton Avenue from Oakwood Avenue will be restricted.
  • Lane reductions will be in place on Eglinton Avenue and Oakwood Avenue in the vicinity of the construction zone.
  • A traffic control person will be present.
  • Some on-street parking spaces will be impacted.
