What Work is Taking Place

The Traction Power Substation 11 (TPSS 11) building will be delivered to Scarborough Nissan on Monday November 25, 2019. The TPSS 11 will be delivered in three oversized loads. Vehicles carrying the loads will travel southbound on Warden Avenue and continue eastbound on Civic Road.

Traffic will be temporarily stopped south of Civic Road in both directions to accommodate the delivery.

Once the loads are delivered, crews will assemble the TPSS 11 structure using a large mobile crane.  The temporary work zone will remain in place from Monday November 25, 2019 – Thursday November 28, 2019.

What is a TPSS?

A TPSS is a steel building, about the size of a shipping container, that powers the Light Rail Transit line via an overhead catenary system that provides power to the Light Rail Vehicles. The TPSS converts electricity from the local power source to the levels required by the vehicles. A TPSS is a safe structure and does not introduce any new risk to the community in which it is constructed. All TPSS structures are air-conditioned, and therefore emits a low humming noise, like a residential air conditioner.
