What Work is Taking Place?

To prepare for the construction of Mount Pleasant Station, crews will relocate and upgrade existing overhead hydro utilities in the vicinity of Mount Pleasant Road and Eglinton Avenue East for approximately eight weeks.

Relocating the hydro utility lines is necessary to ensure that service continues while construction activities for the Eglinton Crosstown LRT move forward.

Crews will be working to remove or relocate the existing hydro poles and cables within the City of Toronto’s public right-of-way property that may be in front of or adjacent to private property. To complete this work, crews will move from area to area to either relocate poles or dig trenches to bury the utility lines in a duct bank. Crews may use a hydro-vacuum truck, excavators, and other construction equipment.

As crews are working with the hydro lines, businesses and residents in the area may experience short-duration hydro outages of approximately 20 minutes while the work is underway. After the work is complete, longer-duration outages will be required to switch over to the new hydro infrastructure; the longer-duration outages will be communicated separately to the affected properties.

The work zone for trenching on Eglinton Avenue East is being set up the week of May 23, 2017; the rest will follow in the coming weeks.
