Upcoming Lane Closure Between Wynford Drive and Credit Union Drive for Oversized Delivery of Building Pieces
Friday November 22 – Sunday November 24, 2019
What Work is Taking Place?
The traction power substation 9 (TPSS 9) building will be delivered to the southwest corner of Eglinton Avenue East and Credit Union Drive on Friday November 22, 2019. TPSS 9 will be delivered in three oversized loads. Vehicles carrying the loads will travel southbound on Victoria Park Avenue from Highway 401, and continue westbound on Eglinton Avenue East before crossing into the eastbound lanes at Eglinton Avenue East and Credit Union Drive and into the temporary work zone.
Traffic on Eglinton Avenue East will be shifted to the north and will be reduced to one lane in each direction between Wynford Drive and Credit Union Drive. All lanes on the south side of Eglinton Avenue East (the normal eastbound lanes) will be closed in this area. Westbound traffic between Victoria Park Avenue and Swift Drive will experience delays when travelling behind the vehicles carrying loads during the delivery period, which is expected to last from 8:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m., Friday to Saturday.
Once the loads are delivered, crews will assemble the TPSS 9 structure using a large mobile crane. The temporary work zone will remain in place from Friday November 22 – Sunday November 24, 2019.
What is a TPSS?
A traction power substation (TPSS) is a steel building, about the size of a shipping container, that provides power to light rail vehicles via the overhead catenary system. A TPSS converts electricity from the local power source to the levels required by the vehicles. A TPPS is a safe structure and does not introduce any new risk to the community in which it is situated. All TPSS structures are air-conditioned, and therefore emit a low humming noise, like a residential air conditioner.
