What Work is Taking Place?

As part of the continued support of excavation works and utility relocation works for the future Science Centre Station, traffic staging at the intersection of Don Mills Road and Eglinton Avenue East will be changing.

Preparatory work for the reconfiguration will take place as early as June 28 starting at 8:00 p.m. and continue over the weekend of June 29–July 2, 2018.

Once the traffic set-up is in place, this configuration is expected to remain in place for approximately four (4) months to support the ongoing construction of the future Science Centre Station.

A new work zone will be erected on the east side of Don Mills Road on Eglinton Avenue East to facilitate ongoing support of excavation. Adjustments will be made to the traffic control barriers around the intersection.

TTC bus route 34C will be detoured during this stage due to the left turn restriction from eastbound Eglinton to northbound Don Mills.

TTC Bus Rerouting

Hours of Work

  • Preparatory work for the reconfiguration is expected to take place overnight beginning as early as Thursday, June 28, 2018 starting at 8:00 p.m.
  • If necessary, preparatory work may continue throughout the weekend. The new set up will be in place prior to Monday morning rush hour.
  • Work may be rescheduled due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.
  • Regular construction operations may occur during daytime hours before and after the set up.

What to Expect

  • A minimum of two through lanes of traffic in each direction will be maintained.
  • New turning restrictions will be in place for the duration of the set up at the intersection.
  • During the work zone set-up additional short duration lane closures may be required to safely conduct the work.
  • Pedestrians and road users can expect delays when travelling through the work zone.
  • As always, please take care when travelling near work sites.

Traffic and Pedestrian Impacts

  • Please note new turn restrictions will be in place for the duration of this set up:
    • The left turn from northbound Don Mills to westbound Eglinton will be prohibited.
    • The left turn from southbound Don Mills to eastbound Eglinton will be prohibited.
    • The left turn from eastbound Eglinton Avenue to northbound Don Mills will be prohibited.
    • The left turn restriction from southbound Don Mills to eastbound Rochefort Drive will be permitted for the duration of this set up (see map).
  • The north-south crosswalk on the east side of the intersection will be closed for the duration of this set up.
  • The north-south crosswalk on the west side of the intersection will reopen for the duration of this set up.
  • The east-west crosswalks on the north and south sides of the intersection will remain open for the duration of this set up.
  • Pedestrian rerouting around work zones can be expected, with detours clearly marked with signage directing pedestrians to the alternate routes.

TTC Impacts

TTC Route 34C Detour:

Relocation and re-routing of bus stops is done in consultation with TTC to ensure construction can continue safely while minimizing impact on the community and customers.

TTC bus route 34C will be detoured during this stage due to the left turn restriction from eastbound Eglinton to northbound Don Mills (see map above).

At Don Mills Road, Route 34C will continue east along Eglinton Avenue then turn right at Ferrand Drive, continue south, turn right at Rochefort Drive, then turn right onto Don Mills Road travelling north until it reaches the temporary northbound stop near the Superstore entrance. The pre-existing TTC Route 34C route will then resume.
