What Work is Taking Place?

Starting as early as Friday, April 6, 2018, crews will start support of excavation work, also known as shoring, for the future Kennedy Station. As part of these works traffic staging at the intersection of Kennedy Road and Eglinton Avenue East will be changing.

A new work zone will be erected in the center of Eglinton Avenue East with traffic moved to the north side of Eglinton Ave East at the Kennedy Road intersection. Access to South Service Road will be maintained. Traffic control barriers will be installed around the intersection to provide a protected work zone.

Hours of Work

  • Weather permitting, crews will adjust the traffic set-up on the following schedule:
    • Beginning as early as Friday, April 6, 2018 at 7:00 PM working overnight until 5:00 AM on Saturday, April 7, 2018.
    • Work will continue throughout the weekend.
    • The new set-up is expected to be complete by Monday, April 9, 2018 and will remain in place for approximately three (3) months.
  • A paid-duty Police Officer will be present during traffic set-up work, as required.
  • The contractor may not always work during the permitted hours, but may do so at its discretion.
  • Work may be rescheduled due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.

What to Expect

  • Traffic will be shifted to the north side of Eglinton Avenue East between Ionview Road to west of Midland Avenue.
  • A minimum of two through lanes of traffic in each direction will be maintained.
  • There will be a no-right-turn restriction from southbound Kennedy Road to westbound Eglinton Avenue East for the duration of this stage.
  • During the work zone set-up additional short duration lane closures may be required to safely conduct the work.
  • Sidewalk and/or crosswalk closures may be in effect.
  • The north-south crosswalk on the east side of the Kennedy-Eglinton intersection will close for the duration of this stage.
  • The west, south, and north crosswalks will remain open for the duration of this stage.
  • Pedestrian rerouting around work zones can be expected, with detours clearly marked with signage directing pedestrians to the alternate routes.
  • Pedestrians and road users can expect delays when travelling through the work zone.
  • Nearby businesses and residents can expect noise from trucks and other construction equipment required to perform the work.
  • As always, please take care when travelling near work sites.
