What Work is Taking Place?

To prepare for upcoming shoring activities, crews will be conducting Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) investigations along the right-of-way on the south side of Eglinton Avenue from Cowbell Lane to Holly Street. Pedestrian access along Eglinton Avenue East from Cowbell Lane to Holly Street will be maintained.

Crews will drill bore holes and use a hydro-vacuum truck within the public right-of-way to determine the location of the underground utilities and the ground conditions around the intersection for design purposes. 

Hours of Work

  • This work is expected to begin as early as August 2018 and last for approximately 1 month.
  • Work is permitted between the hours of 7:00 AM and 11:00 PM, 7 days a week.
  • The contractor may not always work during the permitted hours, but may do so at its discretion.
  • Occasional overnight work may be required. Metrolinx will notify the public in advance and monitor activities throughout.
  • Work may be rescheduled due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.

 

What to Expect

  • A new work zone will be set up on the south side of Eglinton Avenue East from Cowbell Lane to Holly Street. 
  • Pedestrian access along Eglinton Avenue East from Cowbell Lane to Holly Street will be maintained.
  • Nearby residents and businesses can expect to hear some noise related to the use to a saw cutter, hydro-vacuum truck, drill, and other construction equipment. 
  • In addition to construction activity, residents can expect to see equipment and material storage within designated work zones.
  • For safety purposes, fencing will be erected around the work zone.
  • All access to businesses is maintained throughout the stages.

 

Transit Information

Access to the TTC Eglinton Subway Station will be maintained. Relocation and re-routing of bus stops is done in consultation with TTC  to ensure construction can continue safely while minimizing impact on the community and customers. Please watch for posted notices indicating new information. 

 

Travelling Smart during Construction

Travel delays are expected with the Crosstown construction. Please allow extra time for your journey. Traffic will be extra heavy at peak periods during the Crosstown construction. When possible, please travel during the off-peak period between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.
