What work is Taking Place?
- Pending a City of Toronto permit, work will commence to replace and relocate existing utilities in the area of Yonge Street and Eglinton Avenue to make way for the future Eglinton interchange station. Over the coming months, storm and sanitary sewers, water mains, hydro ducts, and telecommunications utilities will be replaced and relocated in a series of stages.
Timing
- Work is expected to begin as early as mid-August 2016.
- This stage of the utilities relocation is expected to last 1-2 months.
- Work is permitted between the hours of 7:00 AM and 11:00 PM, 7 days a week.
- The contractor may not always work during the permitted hours, but may do so at its discretion.
- Occasional overnight work may be required. Metrolinx will notify the public in advance and monitor activities throughout.
- Work is subject to permits and all relevant approvals, and may be rescheduled due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.
What to Expect
- Construction zones will be instated along Eglinton Avenue, Yonge Street, Duplex Avenue, Orchard View Boulevard, Roehampton Avenue, and Redpath Avenue at various stages of utilities relocation.
- Lane closures on Yonge Street and Eglinton Avenue will be required to carry out the work.
- At least one lane in each direction east-west along Eglinton Avenue and north-south along Yonge Street will be maintained.
- All turns at the Yonge-Eglinton intersection will be restricted. Right turns may be permitted during some stages of utilities relocation.
- Residents and businesses near construction sites should anticipate noise from excavators, bobcats, and other construction equipment caused by utilities relocation activity and removal of debris.
- All access to businesses is maintained throughout the stages.
Short-Term Traffic & Pedestrian Details

Water main and sewer main relocation
