What Work is Taking Place?
Construction at Avenue Station takes place 24 hours Monday through Friday, and 7:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. The following activities are currently underway:
- Main Entrance Construction
Final lining and structural works are ongoing approximately 6 metres below surface level. This work includes installation of waterproofing, rebar, steel, conduits, and formwork. Concrete pours take place on a weekly basis. Each pour takes approximately 12-18 hours to complete. The Gantry crane remains in place at the Main Entrance to assist with lifting materials into the site. Works at the Main Entrance are expected to reach surface level in Summer 2021.
- Secondary Entrance Construction
Structural works, including steel framing, rebar and formwork installation. Crews are building and removing timber and steel molds using a mallet hammer. This activity is required to pour the concrete that forms the station walls and slabs. The work has reached surface level and is expected to continue until late April 2021.
- Station Box (beneath Eglinton Avenue)
Final lining of the cavern arches, concourse slabs, and headwalls. Final lining works include waterproofing, rebar, conduit, and formwork installation. Concrete works will continue through the entire station box through Summer 2021. The supports for Overhead Catenary System (OCS) are being installed above track level. The OCS will provide operational power to the Light Rail Vehicles (LRVs).
