What Work is Taking Place?

As part of the continued support of excavation works and utility relocations for the future Science Centre Station, traffic staging at the intersection of Don Mills Road and Eglinton Avenue East has changed to advance construction.

Shoring is a common step in the process of constructing the foundation of a building.  Steel piles, as well as braces and tie-backs, will be installed around the perimeter of the station box to support excavation.

The next stage of construction has begun and the new traffic configuration is expected to last approximately three (3) months.

Hours of Work

  • Work is expected to start as early as mid-May 2017, and is expected to last up to three (3) months.
  • Work is permitted between the hours of 7:00 AM and 11:00 PM, 7 days a week. The contractor may not always work during the permitted hours, but may do so at its discretion.
  • Occasional overnight works may also be expected. Updates on works taking place during overnight periods will be communicated separately.
  • Work may be rescheduled due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.

Traffic Details

  • A minimum of two thru lanes of traffic in each direction will be maintained during peak hours.
  • Right turn restrictions have been implemented at three corners of the intersection. Restrictions are clearly marked with signage to advise motorists.
  • An opportunity to turn right is allowed just west of Gervais Dr (large trucks are not permitted to turn right).
  • Right hand turns at the north east corner are prohibited.
  • At the north west and south east corners right turns on red lights are prohibited.
  • Additional lane reductions can be expected on Eglinton Avenue and/or Don Mills Road during off peak hours for additional related works.

Pedestrian Details

  • The north-to-south crosswalk on the east side of the intersection is closed. The remaining three crosswalks at the intersection are open.
  • The sidewalk on the south side of Eglinton Avenue between Don Mills Road and Leslie Street is closed.
  • Pedestrian detours are clearly marked with signage directing pedestrians to the alternate routes.

TTC Details

  • The westbound bus stop on Eglinton Avenue East has be relocated to the west side of the intersection.
  • The southbound bus stop on Don Mills Road has be relocated to the north side of the intersection.
  • Relocation and re-routing of bus stops is done in consultation between TTC and Metrolinx to ensure construction can continue safely while minimizing impact on the community and customers.
  • Please watch for posted signage indicating new transit information.
