What Work is Taking Place

The term “dewatering” means pumping from the ground water at a site where there will be excavation.  At Eglinton Avenue East & Bayview Avenue, dozens of small wells will be drilled around the entire station box where excavation will be taking place. The volume of soil that requires dewatering is significant.  50 wells will be drilled around the intersection and shallow trenches will be required to lay the pipes, pumps, wells and valves to do the work.  The drills installing the wells and the trenches for the piping will encircle the station box.

Impacts related to this work will include lane closures and sidewalk rerouting around the location of the drilling.

Hours of Work/What to Expect
  • Works will commence beginning of May 2017*
  • Drilling and trenching will occur between 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.
  • Equipment will remain in place after the rig has finished for the day.  This approach will expedite the work and ensure it continues to move around the zone efficiently
  • The entire installation will take approximately five months
  • Equipment is expected to change position approximately every 3 days
* Timelines are subject to change due to unforeseen circumstances

Traffic and Pedestrian Impacts
  • Parts of the sidewalk will be temporarily closed for short duration installation of the wells and trenching
  • Pedestrians will be rerouted around these temporary sidewalk obstructions
  • Lane reductions will be in place on Eglinton Avenue East in the vicinity of the construction zone
Transit Impacts
  • Short duration relocation of bus stops is done in consultation between TTC and Metrolinx to ensure construction can continue safely while minimizing impact on the community and customers. Please watch for posted notices indicating new information.
