What work is Taking Place?
What: The work zone will move from the south side of Eglinton Avenue East to the north side of Eglinton Avenue East between east of Yonge Street and west of Lillian Street. Crews will return to the north side of Eglinton Avenue East for the remainder of the extraction shaft construction, until approximately December 2016. During this final stage, crews will continue to install secant piles and continue excavating the shaft so the tunnel boring machines (TBMs) can be extracted in early 2017.
Why: The extraction shaft must be completed in order to remove the tunnel boring machines from the ground.
When: Starting as early as the beginning of August, crews will occupy the roadway on the north side of Eglinton Avenue East, until early 2017 when the TBMs will be extracted. Some work may be rescheduled or adjusted due to weather conditions and unforeseen circumstances.
Traffic Details
- Traffic will shift to the south lanes on Eglinton Avenue East, and remain reduced to one lane in each direction between Yonge Street and Lillian Street.
- Left turns from Holly Street onto Eglinton Avenue will be prohibited.
- Left turns from westbound Eglinton Avenue onto Holly Street will be prohibited.
- On-street parking will be restricted along the north and south sides of Eglinton Avenue East in the construction zone.
- All work zones will be separated from the right-of-way with traffic cones, concrete barriers and/or fencing.
- Traffic delays are expected during construction. Please watch the traffic signs and take care when travelling near construction areas.
40 Eglinton Avenue East Vehicle Entry:
- Access to and from the 40 Eglinton Avenue East underground parking lot and driveway will remain open.
- Only westbound traffic will be able to enter the 40 Eglinton Avenue East driveway and underground parking lot.
- Westbound Eglinton vehicles entering the 40 Eglinton Avenue East driveway and underground parking lot will perform a right-hand turn and immediate U-turn within the barricaded entrance area.
- Please follow posted signs for directions.
- Please be aware of pedestrian traffic.
40 Eglinton Avenue East Vehicle Exit:
- Vehicles exiting 40 Eglinton Avenue East cannot turn left. Vehicles must immediately turn right and join westbound Eglinton traffic
Pedestrian Information
Pedestrian walkways will remain open; however detours may be in place. Access to all stores and businesses will remain open during construction.
Transit Information
For the safety of transit riders, both eastbound and westbound TTC bus stops in the affected area will be relocated. Watch for posted signs and future information indicating the new locations.
Work Hours
Most of the work will be carried out between 7:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m., 7 days a week. In certain situations, some late night and/or early morning works may be required to complete the work and keep construction moving. The contractor will not always work during the extended hours, but may do so at its discretion.
