What work is Taking Place?
What: Crews will return to the south side of Eglinton Avenue East to complete the Emergency Exit Building construction. A temporary closure of Petman Avenue at Eglinton Avenue East is required for the duration of this work.
Why: During this stage, crews will continue to relocate utilities, install support piles, excavate a shaft, build a stairwell, and construct the Emergency Exit Building.
When: Starting as early as beginning of August 2016 through summer 2017, crews will occupy the roadway on the south side of Eglinton Avenue East. Some work may be rescheduled or adjusted due to weather conditions and unforeseen circumstances.
Where: The work zone will occupy the south lanes of Eglinton Avenue East and extend from east of Forman Avenue to west of Marmot Street. Petman Avenue will be closed at Eglinton Avenue East for approximately 12 months.
Traffic Details
- Traffic will shift to the north lanes of Eglinton Avenue East, and remain reduced to one lane in each direction.
- Petman Avenue will be closed at Eglinton Avenue East.
- No driveways or laneways will be blocked during this stage of construction.
- The parking lot at 393 Eglinton Avenue East (Mac’s Convenience) can be accessed from Petman Avenue.
- On-street parking will be restricted along the north and south sides of Eglinton Avenue East in the construction zone.
Pedestrian Information
- To ensure the safety of pedestrians, the sidewalk on the south side of Eglinton will be temporarily closed at Petman Avenue.
- Pedestrians may cross to the sidewalk on the north side of Eglinton Avenue East at traffic signals at Forman Avenue and Banff Road.
- To ensure the safety of pedestrians, detour signs will be posted in advance of the work zone.
- Access to stores along Eglinton Avenue East will be maintained.
Transit Information
For the safety of transit riders, both eastbound and westbound TTC bus stops in the affected area will be relocated. Watch for posted signs and future information indicating the new locations.
Work Hours
Most of the work will be carried out between 7:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m., 7 days a week. In certain situations, some late night and/or early morning works may be required to complete the work and keep construction moving. The contractor will not always work during the extended hours, but may do so at its discretion.
