What Work is Taking Place?
As early as Monday August 9, 2021, crews at Avenue Station will begin to disassemble and remove the overhead gantry crane (depicted above) located at the Main Entrance site, west of Avenue Road. Disassembly and removal of the gantry crane is expected to take place Monday through Saturday, on a 24-hour basis, for approximately 10 days.
To facilitate this work safely, westbound traffic on Eglinton Avenue West will be reduced to one lane at the Main Entrance. Lane reductions are not expected to be performed daily, only when required. For more information, please review the complete notice.
What to Expect
Use of a mobile crane and telescopic boom lift to remove and load the gantry crane pieces onto transport trucks is required. Short-term traffic interruptions can be expected, while trucks enter and exit the work zone. Expect delays while travelling through the intersection. Noise from construction activities, including truck traffic, crane movements and material loading, can be expected. Occasionally, use of a jackhammer will be required to break away the concrete footings of the gantry crane. Traffic control personnel and/or a Paid Duty Officer will be present, while this work takes place.
