What Work is Taking Place?

  • In February 2016, crews began conducting geotechnical works along Eglinton Avenue East in preparation for construction of the future Eglinton Crosstown LRT.
  • Crews will drill boreholes in the roadway along Eglinton Avenue East in the vicinity of Kennedy Station, from Rosemount Drive to West of Midland Avenue to determine the condition of existing asphalt, soil and rocks. 
  • Work will be conducted in phases, starting at Rosemount Drive and moving east.

Timing

  • Geotechnical work will last for approximately eight (8) weeks and is expected to start as early as January 12, 2017. Work is permitted between 7:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m. seven days a week. The majority of the work will occur between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m.
  • Work could be rescheduled due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.

 

What to Expect

  • Crews will drill boreholes to varying depths to collect environmental soil samples to determine characteristics and quality. 
  • Boreholes will be drilled along the Eglinton Avenue East corridor, in the vicinity of Kennedy Station, from Rosemount Drive to West of Midland Avenue.\
  • The first phase will start at Rosemount Drive within the boulevard on the north side. Temporary lane closures can be expected with this work.
  • Nearby residents and businesses can expect to hear noise related to road coring, drilling, hydro-vacuuming, and the use of heavy equipment.

 

Traffic & Pedestrian Details

  • Intermittent lane closures can be expected with this work. Equipment and work trucks will be present on Eglinton Avenue East in the vicinity of Kennedy Station, from Rosemount Drive to West of Midland Avenue, as crews move from one hole to the next.
  • Property access will be maintained. 
  • Pedestrian access will be maintained, but intermittent, short duration sidewalk closure may be necessary for the safety of the public during this work.
  • As always, please take care when travelling near work sites. Traffic delays are expected during construction.

 

Transit Details

  • Relocation and re-routing of bus stops is done in consultation between TTC and Metrolinx to ensure construction can continue safely while minimizing impact on the community and customers. Please watch for posted notices indicating new information.
