Update: Pedestrian Route Change Duplex Avenue to Lascelles Boulevard (Eglinton Connects) - June 14, 2021

Implementation of the New Eglinton Avenue Streetscape and Cycle Track

What Work is Taking Place?

As early as June 14, 2021, a new pedestrian route will be implemented on the south side of Eglinton Avenue West, between Duplex Avenue and Lascelles Boulevard, to facilitate ongoing construction of the new Eglinton Connects Streetscape and Cycle Track.

A temporary pedestrian walkway will be created north of the existing sidewalk. The new route will allow pedestrians to travel through the area, while sidewalk construction and utility works continue. Work zones will be erected adjacent to the buildings on the south side of Eglinton Avenue West, as crews occupy the existing sidewalk areas. Fencing, filter cloth and signage will be present to delineate the work zones and help pedestrians navigate the area. Access to businesses, properties, and TTC will be maintained. This configuration is expected to remain in place for approximately three (3) months.

The new Eglinton Connects Streetscape and Cycle Track will be implemented continuously between Avenue Road and Holly Street. Crews will work Monday through Saturday from 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m., with overnight work as required. A separate construction notice will be issued when overnight work is required.

As part of this work, the existing roadway, sidewalk, and any street furniture and trees will be removed. Occasionally, use of a hydro-vacuum truck, jack hammer and/or compaction roller will be required. Significant traffic and pedestrian changes will be in effect. For more information on the City of Toronto’s Eglinton Connects Streetscape and Cycle Track Design, visit www.toronto.ca/eglinton. Please review the complete notice for full details of this work.

What to Expect

A new pedestrian route will be implemented. Noise from construction activity, including trucks, breaking of concrete and asphalt, utility work, and use of heavy equipment can be expected. Construction vehicles and trucks will stage within work zones and traffic tapers. Traffic barrels, fencing, signage, and other equipment will be erected to delineate work zones. Property access will be maintained. Expect delays while travelling through the intersection.
