WHAT WORK IS TAKING PLACE?

Over the next month, crews will complete right of way works including restoration of curbs and sidewalks on the south side of Eglinton Avenue both east and west of Bayview Avenue. This will result in some periodic changes to pedestrian circulation. Please watch for orange and black signage that directs pedestrians.

  • Starting on April 30, crews will be drilling to install dewatering equipment in the enclosed construction area on the south side of Eglinton Avenue East to the east of Mann Ave.
  • Starting as soon as April 30, the north-south crossing on the east side of Bayview Avenue will re-open.
  • Starting as soon as Wednesday May 2, the sidewalk on the south side of Eglinton Avenue East between Bayview Avenue and Mann Avenue will be shifted to allow crews to drill and install dewatering equipment. Pedestrians will be routed around construction works. Access to all businesses will be maintained.

These works are required to support the completion of decking and restoration of the work zone to allow crews to shift to working on the north side of Eglinton Avenue in late May 2018.

TIMING

  • Starting as soon as April 30, pedestrian routes on the map below will be in place for approximately two (2) weeks.
  • Other short duration pedestrian reroutes may be in place during the month of April and May. Please continue to watch for updated notices on a weekly basis until mid-May.
  • Work will occur between 7am and 11pm.
  • Short duration pedestrian rerouting may remain in place overnight.
  • Work may be rescheduled due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.

PEDESTRIAN IMPACTS

  • Rerouting of pedestrians on the south side of Eglinton Avenue between Bayview Avenue and Mann Avenue.
  • North – south crosswalk on the west side of Bayview Avenue will remain open.
  • North – south crosswalk on the east side of Bayview Avenue will re-open.
  • To access east bound TTC stops please cross on the east side of Bayview Avenue.
  • Access to all businesses will be maintained.

WHAT IS DEWATERING

  • The term “dewatering” means pumping water from the ground at a site where there will be excavation. At Eglinton Avenue and Bayview Avenue, many small wells have been drilled around the entire station box where the underground mining excavation will be taking place.
  • The dewatering system is installed in two phases, drilling of the wells and then digging shallow trenches to connect the wells and lay the pipes, pumps, and valves for the system. The volume of soil that requires dewatering is significant.
  • The work taking place will finalize installation of these dewatering wells on the south side of Eglinton Avenue.
